Not sure if your pet needs medical care?

Sometimes it is difficult to decide if your pet needs emergency care. Pets have the ability to mask symptoms of illness or injury and even the most attentive owner may not know if their pet is ill until the condition is too severe for your pet to hide. Rest assured we are here to answer your questions and help you decide whether after-hours care is needed. We encourage you to call anytime you are concerned about the health or well-being of your special family member.

If you are not sure if your pet is feeling well. Ask yourself:

Is he or she eating normally?
More or less food and water than what you remember?
Is his or her activity or behavior different than normal (such as quieter, less attentive, reclusive, or hyperactive)
Are bowel movements the same in consistency and frequency?
Is he or she urinating more or less often?
Has he or she urinated or defecated in unusual places?
Is he or she shivering or whining/crying?

If you answered yes to more one or two of the questions above your pet may have a condition which should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your primary care veterinarian can help diagnose conditions with side effects such as those mentioned here. If you are unable to reach your primary care veterinarian, please call 210-691-0900 and ask to speak with one of our technicians.
